Insurance Coverage
The good news today is that most insurance companies are covering weight loss surgery. Unfortunately, some policies may exclude it. Exact coverage is usually determined by your employer, or, if you are self insured, your individual policy. Coverage varies widely depending on your insurance company and your individual plan.

If possible, review your original health insurance plan to determine if you have coverage for weight loss surgery. Check the "Exclusion of Coverage" section for mention of a possible exclusion for weight loss surgery. If you are unable to locate your original document, simply call the toll free customer service number located on the back of your insurance card and talk with a representative. They will be able to tell you if you have coverage and benefits for either the adjustable gastric band or gastric bypass surgery.

If you have coverage for surgical weight loss, we will submit all of the necessary clinical information to your insurance company in an effort to obtain prior authorization for weight loss surgery. If you do not have insurance coverage, or have an exclusion in your policy, there are several financing options available to you. These, and other topics related to coverage for weight loss surgery, will be discussed at our informational seminars.

To register for a seminar, or obtain additional information related to insurance coverage, please call the Surgical Weight Loss Center at (813) 615-7077.
